Tanah Lot Temple

Today morning, we checked out from our Villa in Ubud and  started our journey to Royal Mengwi temple, one of the oldest temples. We are supposed to cover monkey forest in between, but we wanted to skip that. We weren’t really interested in seeing monkeys. It was a long journey to Royal Mengwi temple, took almost 2.5 hrs to reach.

This is a very big one compared to the Ubud temple and it has a small lake around it. The structures in the temple looked fascinating in different heights and each one represents a particular God.

From there, we reached the famous “Tanah Lot” temple, which is located in water near the beach. Since there is high tide when we reached there, we couldn’t go to the temple. We could only see it from outside.

One more strange thing we have observed there is the high tide and low tide pattern. From morning 6 to evening 6, typically water levels are high and in the evening, water goes back from the shore. During low tide, there will be no water between the temple and the beach and people can easily walk in. Since we reached there around 3pm, we couldn’t walk there. I have never seen this in any beach in India so far, so appeared strange. I have heard that this happens in Andaman too.

The temple looked amazing from the shore and water around it made it look even more attractive. The beach there has black sand. We spent lot of time there and then started our journey to our resort in Nusa Dua. It was again a long journey on the sunset road. Since we started just before the time of sunset, we faced lot of traffic on the road as visitors are travelling to reach sunset points on the west side of the island.

We reached Nusa Dua in the evening, the Nusa Dua road is full of beach resorts and have lot of restaurants with various cuisines. Our resort looked awesome and the best part is that, we got upgraded to Premier suite from Deluxe room. We immediately checked in our luggage and went to see the beach. But to our surprise again, due to the same low tide phenomenon, the beach has very less water and waves appeared somewhere too far.

Though the Tanah lot beach and Nusa Dua are in the opposite sides of the island, the tide pattern remained the same. The resort has a huge beach facing swimming pool, which is the major attraction there. We again got our complementary foot massage passes here too along with two free mocktails. We went back to our room after dinner hoping to see waves in the beach next day morning 🙂
