GWK, Uluwatu temple

Today morning, we checked out from our resort and moved on to South Bali. Our first stop was at GWK(Garuda Wishnu Kanchana) cultural park. We saw a tribal dance performed there and then walked around to see the complete park.

It has a large Vishnu statue and Garuda statue.

Also there is a big statue with Vishnu on Garuda that is being built on a hill with height larger than Statue of Liberty, so that it can be visible from anywhere in South Bali. We have seen that under construction, waiting to see the completed statue soon ๐Ÿ™‚ It is really a daring decision to build such a huge statue in a country like Indonesia, which is prone to earthquakes.

We had lunch in a restaurant in GWK and started on our journey to Uluwatu temple. It is located on the edge of a hill beside the sea and it has marvelous views.

There are lot of monkeys around the temple and we had to be extremely careful so that they don’t take any items from us. We initially decided to stay there till sunset as the Uluwatu sunset is very famous. Also, there is a hall where kechak dance describing Ramayana story that will be performed at the sunset time. But since we reached there too early and had to wait 2 more hours for sunset, didn’t want to wait so long and left the place.

We went to Padong Padong beach near Uluwatu and spent some time in the beach there. This beach has green water with white sand and little stones here and there in between the water.

We couldn’t witness sunset though due to lot of clouds in the sky.

Then we reached our hotel in Kuta and settled down there for the day. Looking back, I feel we have gathered lot of different experiences in this small island ๐Ÿ™‚
