We started our day early to catch our Milford Sound cruise. The road to Milford Sound was scenic with some interesting stops on the way. Our first stop was Mackay’s creek, a small river flowing across the mountains.

We drove further to Eglinton Valley, it was covered with yellow grass and surrounded by mountains.

We drove past this valley to reach our next stop, Mirror lakes. At the first sight of it, I wasn’t impressed with it as it looked like a small lake, not worth stopping. Only when we went close to the lake that we realized its beauty. The reflection of the mountains in the lake felt too perfect in any angle. I wasn’t really sure of how this was happening, but it was amazing.

We crossed a one-way Homer tunnel in between the mountains, after which it was a ghat road journey to reach Milford Sound.

Milford Sound is a fiord located in Fiordland National Park and can be explored by taking a boat trip. The cruise would take us along the Bay waters till the point where it joins the Tasman sea.

We booked the tickets for the cruise around a month before our journey as it gets sold out soon, particularly in peak season.

We quickly climbed the boat to catch the seats on the front deck, only to realize later that the boat changed its direction after it started moving and we got seats at the back 😛 The boat was not crowded, so we could easily move across the boat.
After a few minutes into our boat journey, we found a majestic waterfall in between the mountains and it looked beautiful.

The boat journey was slow and calm in between the mountains, with the waterfalls adding more beauty to the place. Rainbow felt like an ornament to the waterfall 🙂 Nature’s beauty at its best!

Each part of nature was competing with each other at that point, suddenly the sky looked amazing with clouds scattered like rays.

The boat reached till the point it joined the sea and started its journey back. We then started our return journey and most of the people on the boat who were standing on the deck went inside the boat to relax and have some coffee. I didn’t want to miss a moment outside and stayed back on the deck to find a giant waterfall on our way.

We didn’t expect the boat to go very close to the waterfall and we got completely drenched, but it was great fun being there 🙂

We came back to the ferry point after a two hour boat journey.

We headed back to Te Anau with a small stop at Monkey Creek, a scenic valley.

We could reach Te Anau by sunset time, but unfortunately due to clouds behind the mountains, we couldn’t observe bright sunset colors in the sky. We found a large bunch of cute ducks in the lake as a reward 🙂

Sunset was early in Autumn at around 5:30pm, otherwise we could have got more daylight to explore.
Milford Sound is definitely a magical destination, but can this be called as the eight wonder (as stated by Rudyard Kipling) is a debatable question. Whatever be the hype around it, I would definitely recommend a visit to this place! 🙂
