We love coastal walks and explored most of the walks around Sydney and assumed we have covered the best. Recently, we found about this hidden gem in Royal National Park. The exciting part of this walk is a waterfall at the end dropping into the mighty pacific ocean. We couldn’t ask for more, coastal walk + waterfall, I couldn’t even imagine this combination earlier. I immediately searched google to find out about this rare combo and realized that there are very few waterfalls in the world dropping into an ocean, which made the trip even more exciting. We witnessed a waterfall in New Zealand on the same lines, Milford Sound, but it is dropping into a bay, which is relatively calm. We couldn’t wait longer and planned the walk the next weekend.
Our starting point was from Wattamolla beach from where this walk starts. The walk is relatively easy but long, around 8.8 km return. Most of the walk has a well laid track and the ascent was gradual. We couldn’t resist stopping at every turn of this walk for the beautiful 360 degree views.

The waterfall view is actually hidden and cannot be seen naturally as we walk along. As soon as we crossed the Curracurrong creek on the rocks laid out, we could hear the waterfall but couldn’t locate it.

We found a rock shelter off the track, from where we got a good view of waterfall and the Eagle rock.

We got excited at the first sight of the beautiful waterfall. The sounds of the water falling from the cliff and waves hitting the rocks felt completely mesmerizing!! This waterfall is also famous for a different reason. The waterfall apparently flows in the opposite direction during high windy days which means water goes back to creek 😀
On the way back from the waterfall, we could clearly see the Eagle head shaped rock from the track.

As we moved further, we found a bush walk to reach the Eagle head rock as it was mentioned to have great views of waterfall. The view was spectacular, it is actually a double waterfall which can be clearly observed from that location. Since the second waterfall stream is very less, it is not clearly visible in the picture. After a good rainfall, both falls can be easily distinguished.

We followed the track back to Watamolla beach and it took around 3-4 hours to complete it with good breaks in between.

This can be easily rated as the best coastal walk we have been on and we clearly knew we would be back on this track multiple times. The coastal walk itself is amazing and waterfalls are great cherries on the top 🙂
